We are glad you are interested in practicing talking together with an animal!
To get started, greet the animal and ask if they have time to talk with you. Remember that animals also lead busy lives even though we may not see all that they do. If they aren’t available, check back later.
Introduce yourself and explain why you are reaching out to them: that you are a member of the Animal Talk Coaching Club and learning to better communicate with animals and would appreciate their help. You can ask them any questions you want. Typically they do provide a response. Please share your impressions of their personality, energy, how they feel and any insights they may share with you. By sharing what you get, the animal’s person can provide you with feedback and others can jump in too.
Use the Forum SEARCH field (located at the top of the right column below the picture of the Featured Animal Teacher) to find more discussions involving this animal (or other animals with the same name).
Some conversations have been lively, and we’ve learned some amazing insights, and laughed at jokes. Remember that this is a safe place to practice. This is about practice and learning, it is not about getting it perfect. The animals have much to teach us, to share with us and we with them

Hi Erika, thanks for letting me talk with Ashton. I was drawn to him most among all your kids, perhaps as he looks the most enigmatic. I’m woefully out of practice, so I’m afraid I didn’t get much, hoping some of it resonates with you.
Ashton has a superior air, very confident of himself, strong, but a bit impatient and particular about things. He is sometimes aloof, not too extroverted, and has strong likes and dislikes. He has leadership qualities and lives life on his own terms.
His aura is yellow, which matches with his cheerful demeanor. He has a gruff, medium bark. He has a brisk walk and likes to climb on to things.
Is he fond of meat balls? He shows a blue and white checked rug…not sure if he lies on it, or if it’s part of the furnishings.
Did he come to you later in life? He loves being such an integral part of the household and helps to ground you. He is an old, wise soul, and “thoughtful” comes to mind…I saw the additional photos later, and somehow the second one reinforces the feeling!
His message to me was that he is glad I chose him, and there is much to look forward to. The last part intrigues me!
Thanks again, and love and blessings to both of you.
PS: I don’t know if you saw my feedback on your conversation with Sunny….well done!

Hi, Nita!
Thanks for taking time to chat with Ashton! I was so excited someone tried to chat with one of my kids.Hi Erika, thanks for letting me talk with Ashton. — He is definitely the most interesting-looking baby we have. He’s a Pit mix, but he’s mixed with Chow Chow and a host of other breeds. He also had a severe skin issue when we first got him, and his hair hasn’t grown in everywhere, so he has some bald spots.Ashton has a superior air, very confident of himself, strong, but a bit impatient and particular about things. — I love to hear that he’s more confident. He was scared of everything when he first came to us, so it’s nice he’s coming into his own. He is quite particular and gets impatient for things he loves (treats, walks, car rides), and he’s generally pretty aloof with most people.

— I haven’t been able to see his aura, but it sounds beautiful 🙂 He does walk briskly and enjoys climbing and exploring.
Is he fond of meat balls? He shows a blue and white checked rug…not sure if he lies on it, or if it’s part of the furnishings.
— He’s fond of EVERY FOOD! I’m not sure about the blue and white checked rug; we don’t have anything exactly like that in our house, but we did get him later in life (he was about 4 when we got him)

— We got him about 1.5 years ago when he was around 4-5 years old (they weren’t sure). He came from a hoarding case with over 30 other dogs, and he had been neglected his whole life, so it’s been a big deal for him to be a family member; it took him a while to warm up and trust. He does give the impression of being old and wise — I think you nailed that part!
His message to me was that he is glad I chose him, and there is much to look forward to. The last part intrigues me!
–That is interesting! He’s learned and experienced a lot of new things (living in a home, riding in a car, being touched, being fed regularly, going for walks, meeting people, etc.) since we got him, and he gets so excited for new things and new experiences. It’s like his mind has been blown with how much he didn’t get to experience before, and he’s excited to take it all in now.
I think you absolutely connected with him and did a great job describing him and his personality. It’s been funny to see him come into his personality and he’s been a great reminder for me about why I want to help animals.
Thanks for talking with him (and for the feedback on Sunny)! This was a cool experience.
Thanks again, and love and blessings to both of you.
