We are glad you are interested in practicing talking together with an animal!
To get started, greet the animal and ask if they have time to talk with you. Remember that animals also lead busy lives even though we may not see all that they do. If they aren’t available, check back later.
Introduce yourself and explain why you are reaching out to them: that you are a member of the Animal Talk Coaching Club and learning to better communicate with animals and would appreciate their help. You can ask them any questions you want. Typically they do provide a response. Please share your impressions of their personality, energy, how they feel and any insights they may share with you. By sharing what you get, the animal’s person can provide you with feedback and others can jump in too.
Use the Forum SEARCH field (located at the top of the right column above the picture of the Featured Animal Teacher) to find more discussions involving this animal (or other animals with the same name).
Some conversations have been lively, and we’ve learned some amazing insights, and laughed at jokes. Remember that this is a safe place to practice. This is about practice and learning, it is not about getting it perfect. The animals have much to teach us, to share with us and we with them.

Hi Jill! I am sharing my previous conversations with Nikki from last week. I asked her about liking dogs. she said it depends on the dog. I asked do you like paddie. She says “Yes. I have swatted her and I like to have clear boundaries. I do not trust most dogs or rather most people. But I don’t worry about it.” I said, do you know that dogs are good guardians even of cats if they are family. “Yes.” Do you respect dogs. “Yes and no.” she says her favorite thing to do when dog comes up is run and hide. Are you afraid of dogs, i asked. “No yes but no. I just don’t want confrontation.” But no confrontation with paddie, i ask. Please Tell me about that. At this point I saw an image of Nikkie as a gorgeous calico with gray brown orange and white plus streaks of other colors. (like i told you in previous message, I was happy to see her pick you emailed me, which confirmed i was connecting with right cat. So happy to see her beautiful face/eyes on this page. She then said, “I feel safe but on edge.” Well I understand thank you for sharing. Jill, I don’t see her around a lot of dogs, is she? What is her behavior with dogs from your perspective and in what situations? I got a message (that you already know) that she is weary of you. I asked Nikki to just stay relaxed in her skin and know that its okay to have her space. “Yes I’ll just keep my distance. And yes open to distance communication.”
a few days later: “I need space.” I said, yes darling and she puts paw on my heart then knibbled my hand. I didn’t move hand and she said “I trust you” and stayed and relaxed. she said, “Its disturbing to me” as I saw image of dog barking. I related with her on that. I see Nikki as Very frisky very playful but it can hurt. She wants to be in charge. Who else in household i asked. i got parents 2 boys (i believe you told me 1 recently) paddie jill. nikki then said, “I like dogs. She is stressed.” i feel she was referring to your daughter in law, as being stressed, based on what you told me. She is a Very lovable kitty. In her freedom and wants to stay that way.
next conversation: “They are agitated they are on guard.” Can you let this go, i ask, in order To help let go of the on-guard energy in the home… To help her let go and to therefore be a bringer of serenity and calm by letting go of their/her drama. She seemed to like this idea but not fully get it yet.
I look forward to communicating with Nikki now that her face photo is posted and to see how things might have shifted since we last spoke last week. Have a great day Jill!
