We are glad you are interested in practicing talking together with an animal!
To get started, greet the animal and ask if they have time to talk with you. Remember that animals also lead busy lives even though we may not see all that they do. If they aren’t available, check back later.
Introduce yourself and explain why you are reaching out to them: that you are a member of the Animal Talk Coaching Club and learning to better communicate with animals and would appreciate their help. You can ask them any questions you want. Typically they do provide a response. Please share your impressions of their personality, energy, how they feel and any insights they may share with you. By sharing what you get, the animal’s person can provide you with feedback and others can jump in too.
Use the Forum SEARCH field (located at the top of the right column above the picture of the Featured Animal Teacher) to find more discussions involving this animal (or other animals with the same name).
Some conversations have been lively, and we’ve learned some amazing insights, and laughed at jokes. Remember that this is a safe place to practice. This is about practice and learning, it is not about getting it perfect. The animals have much to teach us, to share with us and we with them.

Is Cookie a female? When I first connected in I saw an image of a grey/blonde man combing over his hair, hmmm. I got that he loves beef jerky treats and bone shaped treats, loves to feels comfortable and relaxed, loves being in the car especially when she is out of the crate but that she feels safe and grounded in the crate with a toy bone. She seems funny and to love and cuddle with other animals, even large dogs, but weary of cats sometimes. She felt very protective but I felt that she also may hide and avoid confrontation. I saw an image of a hound dog that may have hurt her? I also saw her playing with flowers, a slide like a slip-and-slide, a doll toy that gets hair in her mouth, and a toy bird. I imagined her avoiding puddles when walking outside, but loving to watch the rain. She seems shy with strangers and that if approached by strangers she may have short lived aggressive behavior. But I see her in general very loving and ecstatic to connect with humans she knows or trusts. I felt her asking me “Cookie likes to eat a human cookie sometimes?” I had an impression that she may have a weaker immune system and sensitive to her own anxiety, maybe skin issues occasionally or nodules? I had an image of her in tap shoes (a natural performer) and wearing red high heels ha ha! I got the sense that she is high class and likes things just so so, especially in her personal bed.

Hi Angela,
My apologies for the delay in responding… Cookie is a female. She does love to cuddle, although not so much with the cats, she is pretty vocal about not liking them near her (not that it matters to the cats!). She’s small, about 5 lbs and the cats outweigh her by at least double. The cats are nice to her though and often try to cuddle with her. I’ve had her about 1.5 years, we’re not sure what her former home was like, she had pretty severe dental disease and had to have all her remaining teeth removed due to severe infection (she had 5 teeth when I got her). She is super excited to connect with people she knows and will dance around and around (I keep thinking we need to be in one of those “dancing with dogs” competitions). She does have some anxiety issues and some issues with her skin – mostly an overgrowth of yeast, which is often linked to a compromise immune system. She’s a character! Thank you for connecting with her! -

Hello Robin. Thank you for sharing Cookie as an animal teacher. My general impression of Cookie is that she is very loving and has a fun personality. Does she have a limp? She stands on her hind legs to get treats, loves to snuggle and cuddle. Loves to tease the other animals with a kind of hide and go seek game, and loves life.
I opened the conversation with introducing myself and asking if we could talk. C: Why, of course! S: Thank you, how are you Cookie? I’m good, I’m always good! S: That’s great. What would you like to share with me? C: Oh, I don’t know, what would you like to know? S: What are your favorite things to do? C: Hop around the kitchen when food is being prepared. Love the smells, and I’m there for cleanup if anything hits the floor! (LOL) I have to be careful what I eat though. S: Oh, why is that Cookie? C: Some things upset my tummy. S: I see, that’s no fun. What do you do during the day? C: I lounge around a lot and watch what’s going on around me. I can’t play a lot, so I sit and watch. S: So, why can’t you play much? C: My legs don’t work real well, but I can still get belly rubs! S: Belly rubs sound nice. So, what is the situation with your legs? C: I was born this way, but it doesn’t stop me from enjoying life! S: That’s great. C: And I so enjoy my human family. S: What kind of human family do you have? A man and a woman, and visitors sometimes, with a small child. S: So, do you get lots of attention? C: Oh yes! I’m very loved. S: That’s great! Is there anything else? C: No, just that I’m a very happy doggy! S: I’m so glad you are. Thanks for talking with me! -

Hi Sharon,
Thank you for connecting with Cookie! She is a character! I’ve had her a little over a year, so I’m not sure what her family looked like before me, but here it’s just me and Cookie and the cats. 🙂
She does love to hang out in the kitchen when I’m getting the food ready for everyone… someone else mentioned that her stomach might give her issues, I haven’t noticed that, but have been careful of what she eats just in case. She had severe periodontal disease when she came here and we had to have her 5 remaining teeth removed so she doesn’t have any teeth… which doesn’t really slow her down with eating!
She does have a tiny bit of a limp and sometimes favors her front paw. She’s still very active though for a ~13 year old! She loves to cuddle (although she’s not fond of the cats trying to cuddle with her!). If I’m sitting down – she’s in my lap. She is a happy girl and I’m happy that she is here with us!Thank you again – Robin
