We are glad you are interested in practicing talking together with an animal!
To get started, greet the animal and ask if they have time to talk with you. Remember that animals also lead busy lives even though we may not see all that they do. If they aren’t available, check back later.
Introduce yourself and explain why you are reaching out to them: that you are a member of the Animal Talk Coaching Club and learning to better communicate with animals and would appreciate their help. You can ask them any questions you want. Typically they do provide a response. Please share your impressions of their personality, energy, how they feel and any insights they may share with you. By sharing what you get, the animal’s person can provide you with feedback and others can jump in too.
Use the Forum SEARCH field (located at the top of the right column above the picture of the Featured Animal Teacher) to find more discussions involving this animal (or other animals with the same name).
Some conversations have been lively, and we’ve learned some amazing insights, and laughed at jokes. Remember that this is a safe place to practice. This is about practice and learning, it is not about getting it perfect. The animals have much to teach us, to share with us and we with them.

3/14: For some reason I got an image of a horse when I first connected with Maggie. I asked her if she was near a horse somehow. She said yes. She says that sometimes she feels crowded with too much commotion, but almost numb to it. She says she accepts it and loves her big family. She says she is a bit of a caretaker (energetically) and that she feels proud. I asked her about her toys and for some reason had an image of jawbreaker candy and a carabiner. I saw purple feathers. She says dogs have big hearts. She says she misses the black and white dog; looked like a pit bull mix of some sort. I felt Maggie as soft like feathers. She says she is bored the last couple of weeks but that she (Robin) is just busy, no big deal. She says she is just feeling a bit lazy. She says she misses the ball that she use to have; said she loved chasing it.

Hi Angela,
My sweet Maggie! I don’t know that she’s ever been around horses, maybe she’s thinking of the big dog who used to live next door. She used to live with an older woman and she loved that it was just the two of them for many years. When the lady had to go into assisted living and couldn’t take Maggie with her, Maggie came to live with us. We were living in a really small 1 bedroom house and there were 5 cats and 1 dog who had been there before she came so it was a huge change for her and it was crowded and she spent most of her time in the bathroom hiding. I ended up buying a bigger place (not a lot bigger – 2 bedrooms and we opened up the garage so they could play in there and added a cattery in the backyard). She took over the kitchen and seems much happier than she was in the beginning (it was about 7 years ago that she came to live with us). She is super soft! She loves her catnip toys – I’ll have to get some out for her to play with. 🙂 It’s been raining a lot the past couple of weeks so I imagine she is a bit bored… but it’s been sunny so they’ve been going out in the cattery to play and sun. She’s a great cat – thank you for connecting with her! -

Hi Robin,
Haha. I connected with Maggie and she is sort of indecisive about whether she wants to talk or not. I told her I’ll try again later. She said, “Okay.” I’m not sure if perhaps she pointing out that I am really indecisive about things sometimes. Maybe it’s in relation to the fact that maybe she’s indecisive in relation to what we were talking about the other day. -

Hi Robin,
I’m connecting with Maggie as I write this. I asked her how she is. She said she’s good, but that it’s hot. She said, “Fan?” Then, she said she was near the fan. She’s enjoying it. Right now it’s 12:29 pm on August 25th. She also said she peed on the floor or outside the litter box recently. She said there was no real reason, although the litter box sides are a little high. She also said it was to show you who’s boss. I told her you’d like it if she’d pee inside the litter box. I think sometimes she’s not too fond of that idea.
I asked her what she’s doing today. She said she isn’t doing much because it’s too hot to do much.
I asked her, “What was your life like before Robin’s?” She said it was kind of boring. The person was older and didn’t do much. She said she got lots of lap time. She enjoyed that. She also said she was at a shelter that was small. She didn’t have a lot of room there in the area she was in.
I asked her what she likes about the kitchen. She said she likes the energy and how open it is. It’s peaceful there. She can also smell things. She smells the outside if the windows are open and she smells whatever you make. She also said that Pip comes and bothers her sometimes and showed me an image of her swatting him.
I also got “mouse” or “toy mouse” and she or someone asked me to play. So, I threw a toy mouse. It was a small, grey mouse that was knitted or something (not a plush toy mouse). I also got “red bow” and that the mouse has a red bow-red, plaid.I told her she’s a sweet girl and asked if there’s anything else she’d like to talk about. Before that she showed me an image of herself stretching out of the pink blanket or cushion or something of the sort she’s on in the picture and then curling up on it. She’s done talking and it’s nap time. I told her I look forward to talking to her again and she said, “Me, too!” She said she likes talking to me. I told her I like talking to her. I petted her, hugged her, and gave her a kiss. She said, “Have a great day, Martha!” I said, “Thank you. Same to you.” Love to Maggie!

Hi Martha!
I’m sorry I’m replying late… I sometimes get notifications when someone posts and sometimes I don’t, and this was a time when I didn’t get a notification. This would have been on a day when it was hot and she was near the fan in the kitchen. It’s a ceiling fan, but is near her favorite spot to lounge (and it makes the room quite a bit cooler). She may have peed outside one of the boxes… the spots where that usually happens are in the same area, one box is low for the dog and the other (like most of the cat boxes) does have high sides.
Pip does bother Maggie in the kitchen sometimes and she’ll swat him (not that it does a lot of good, but sometimes that will make him go away). She has a knitted mouse that has catnip that she loves to play with. She loves her naps! I know she enjoys it when people talk to her – thank you for connecting with her!
All the best,
Robin
