We are glad you are interested in practicing talking together with an animal!

To get started, greet the animal and ask if they have time to talk with you. Remember that animals also lead busy lives even though we may not see all that they do. If they aren’t available, check back later.

Introduce yourself and explain why you are reaching out to them: that you are a member of the Animal Talk Coaching & Mastery Club and learning to better communicate with animals and would appreciate their help. You can ask them any questions you want. Typically they do provide a response. Please share your impressions of their personality, energy, how they feel and any insights they may share with you. By sharing what you get, the animal’s person can provide you with feedback and others can jump in too.

Use the Forum SEARCH field (located at the top of the right column above the picture of the Featured Animal Teacher) to find more discussions involving this animal (or other animals with the same name).

Some conversations have been lively, and we’ve learned some amazing insights, and laughed at jokes. Remember that this is a safe place to practice. This is about practice and learning, it is not about getting it perfect. The animals have much to teach us, to share with us and we with them.

3/2/19: Hi Melissa. My impression of Maya was that she avoids confrontation, is very playful, and that she is a bit shy and possibly skittish at times due to outside noises and people. She seemed unsure of me at first but very curious and not running away. Then I saw her hiding but still watching me and then eventually greeting me. I imagined her touching my face with her paw, seeking her own impression maybe. She likes to cuddle Baby, but sometimes nervous? She hangs out in corners sometimes. I got mixed messages when I asked her if she also liked being on the boat. She said sometimes there is too much going on and she likes to be down low in that case and watch the feet. I received message that she has powerful magic/magical knowledge. She helps people see more clearly; I will ask more on this next conversation. I saw an image of her sitting on someone’s lap and trying to walk on their arm and play or touch the glass cup in their hands. Looked like a strawberry daiquiri! She says she claws people by accident sometimes. She says she doesn’t like being a slave in transport (in car) but likes the places she goes once she’s there. Has she ever had icecream? Does she try to get in cabinets? She says like the kitchen table too.

        Hello Angela,
        Sorry for my late answer.
She is definitely curious of people but a bit skittish at first, so I’m not surprised she took a minute to connect with you. she is not really cuddling with Baby, they do play together but she is quite reserved. I believe too that she has a magical knowledge and she is very spiritual, hopefully one day I will be able to tap into it. interesting she said she claws people by accident as I thought that she was actually playing :). Yes she doesn’t like to be in the carrier while we travel but I think she is getting used to the fact that is necessary and that she enjoys when we get there. She never had ice cream but she definitely loves to hide into cabinets, she will jump right in as soon as I open one!
Good job on your communication and thank you for connecting with her!

Thank you for the feedback and details on Maya. Yes the clawing by accident felt playful.

Hello Melissa, thank you for sharing Maya with us as an animal teacher. My impression of her is that she is cautious, on alert, great mouser, loves to play, very curious, and rescued from a person she didn’t like. (I saw her scratching someone). I introduced myself, and asked if we could talk. M: Oh yes! S: How are you? M:I’m good now. S: What do you mean now? M: I was scared before. S: Scared of what? M: That person that didn’t like me. I had to defend myself. S: Wow Maya, how are things for you now? M: It’s all good now. I can finally relax. I know I’ll get food and water here, and I feel loved. S: That’s great. I’m glad you feel that way, You are a beautiful kitty, and look so soft. M: I’ve been told I am. S: What would you like to share with me and Melissa? M: I don’t know, I guess that I’m thankful to be here and feel safe. I’m still learning to trust, and ask for patience with that. I’m trying to be good, so I’m liked. S: Aww, I’m sure Melissa likes you and loves you. M: I hope so, I’m giving her a chance. S: What’s your favorite thing to do? M: I do like to play, but only for a little while. I like to sit and be watchful most of the time. S: Anything else? M: No, not right now. S: Thank you so much for talking with me Maya.

        Hello Sharon!
Sorry it took me so long to reply to you. I haven’t logged in a while.
Thank you for talking with Maya. You got her right!!!
I found her abandoned in a public restroom about 5 years ago, I don’t know anything about the person who cared for her before. I do feel that sometimes she is still on the defense and she snaps sometimes, I hope that it will all go away with time and she learn to trust her ‘new’ family (its been some time by now!). We all love her and she is in a safe place.
She does like to play for a little bit, you are right she is very fast!!!, and then she spends a lot of time contemplating outside or watching her brother playing.
Thank you again for connecting with her and please feel free to continue the conversation another time if you wish!

      Hi Melissa,
Thank you for offering Maya as an animal teacher.
When I was scrolling through the ATH pictures and saw Maya’s picture, she said, “I’m queen” or “I’m a queen”.
I had to go do some things and then came back and told her I was back.

I got that in a past life she was Japanese. She said there were cherry blossoms and she liked them. She said she loves flowers. She loves to see flowers and to smell them. She said she likes to walk through the grass like a meadow and to walk through the flowers. She also said she loves it when you have flowers on the table, especially the fresh cut flowers from your garden.

She also said she enjoys sitting in a window that overlooks a big tree and she can see birds, a bird bath, and butterflies. She likes to watch squirrels, too. She said she likes to watch fish and that there is a coy pond.

She sent me an image of a walkway and water underneath it.

She might have also sent an image of a boat. I think she said she did. I’m not sure though if that’s my ego brain since I saw a while back in one of your posts about a boat.

She said they get raw food.

She said she loves soft and luxurious pillows and other soft and luxurious things. She said she also loves to play hide and go seek.

      She said she loves life.

She said she has a toy mouse she loves to play with. She sent me an image of her with it in her mouth. She said she likes to carry it in the house or the boat with it in her mouth and she likes to meow while she does that.

Maya said she’s a clever and smart cat. She also said she gets a bit skiddish at times and said she’ll go hide sometimes when people she doesn’t know come over.

Maya also said she loves classical music and that you listen to classical music and she loves it when you do!

She said, “I want to play.” I asked her what she’d like to play. She said she’d like to play with the string. I also was getting she’d like to play with something of yours that she saw-a purse or something maybe. I also got that she wanted to play with a bird or her mouse. She sent an image of being a bit aggressive with the bird but then it came to me it was of her with her mouse (not the bird). She sent an image of her gently pawing a bird.

She said sometimes she loves treats-when she’s in the mood.

      She said she loves attention.

I asked her if there was anything else she’d like to talk about. She said, “No, that’ll do it for now,” and sent me an image of her stretched out on a silk nighty she likes. She said she loves the feel of silk. She said she loves being pampered and the pampered life.

She said for me to come back and she’d like to talk again another time. I told her that’d be great! At some point she also sent me an image of her rubbing her head against my face and she might have purred.

I thanked her for talking with me and told her to have a wonderful weekend. She wished me the same and sent an image of her on a big deck higher up (second story of a house maybe) overlooking the ocean.

      She’s a wonderful kitty 🙂

      Hello Martha,
thank you so much for this beautiful communication with Maya!
You are totally right, she is Royalty!
I call her princess at times because she acts like one. She walks and hold herself very stylishly, and she definitely loves the luxurious things!!!
I can see she could have been Japanese that’s a nice discovery!
Yes I do bring in flowers from the garden almost every day now in the spring/summer and from her room in the house she does see the garden with birds, butterflies and squirrels and maybe the bird bath is the pool? There is a big tree (well many big trees but we have a special connection with one) Also there is a deck right underneath the window, if she meant that one.
The other location is the boat (as we spend part time there) and there is definitely a coy pond there!!! the walkway on the water is the long dock where we keep the boat and the high deck could be her favorite spot in the boat in the front of the main cabin where she can look out at the ocean 🙂
About walking in the grass between the flowers perhaps she refers at what she did in her past life or that she desires that. she is an indoor cat but I’ve been thinking to try to take her out on a leash….sometimes I’m just afraid that she could escape and run away tough….
Her room is full on luxurious pillows and she likes to sleep under the bed covers at times on the sheets …maybe that is the silky feeling 🙂
She does eat raw food, its actually freeze dried, I switched them recently and seem to like it. It’s true sometimes she loves the treats and sometimes she will walk away.
About the music, i’ve just started to have music in their room last week, I usually play meditation music but we ofter have music at the boat too. I’m glad she likes it.
She likes to hide and wants me to look for her and then she will run out fast! and she does hide at times when she doesn’t want to be around people or strangers.
She is very smart and skittish and she observes everything.
They have a little yellow bird toy that’s been with them for the longest time. i like to carry it around everywhere we go and they usually don’t play much with it anymore but I think that it gives them as a sense of home.
It took me awhile to figure the mouse toy out as they have several little toys. but there is one that is like a mouse and it squick if you press it. That’s funny!
she also loves to play with the string toy and she likes to get into any bag that’s available to her even shopping bags, paper bags or plastics.
She definitely loves attentions and to be spoiled and she does love life, she seems to always be in touch with it and knows everything that’s going on.
It’s sweet that she rubbed her head against you, she is usually not very friendly with new people but she shared a lot with you so I think you guys have a special connection.

You did amazing Martha! congratulations you got basically everything right!
Thank you again and please come back to talk to her at any time 🙂
There is also her brother Baby available if you wish.

      Have a great weekend!
      Melissa

Thanks for the feedback, Melissa! Considering how much Maya shared with me, I guess she felt comfortable with me and liked talking with me 🙂 That makes me feel good! It makes me smile 🙂 Since I got about the deck being up high, maybe it was her special area on the boat. Maybe the pool was the bird bath she was talking about. If so, that’s a big bird bath! I also feed my cats raw freeze dried food. It’s organic, too, and really healthy.

Maya has quite a life! I love that she’s able to experience seeing the ocean and being on a boat. I also love how luxurious her life is outside of the boat and ocean. I’d love to talk to Maya again (and again and again, etc.) I’d also love to talk to Baby and see what he has to say.

Maya is a sweetie with a sweet soul!

      Love to Maya!

      Hello Martha,
I’m happy to hear that your connection with Maya made you feel good 🙂
Please feel free to come back again and again..as many times as you want. Maya definitely felt comfortable and I’m sure she will enjoy some more conversations with you.
On the other side Baby is a funny character, so you may enjoy him too!
I’m still struggling to receive their messages but I think they understand mines.
I see you also have two wonderful kitties 🙂

Thanks again for you love to Maya
      Melissa
