We are glad you are interested in practicing talking together with an animal!

To get started, greet the animal and ask if they have time to talk with you. Remember that animals also lead busy lives even though we may not see all that they do. If they aren’t available, check back later.

Introduce yourself and explain why you are reaching out to them: that you are a member of the Animal Talk Coaching & Mastery Club and learning to better communicate with animals and would appreciate their help. You can ask them any questions you want. Typically they do provide a response. Please share your impressions of their personality, energy, how they feel and any insights they may share with you. By sharing what you get, the animal’s person can provide you with feedback and others can jump in too.

Use the Forum SEARCH field (located at the top of the right column below the picture of the Featured Animal Teacher) to find more discussions involving this animal (or other animals with the same name).

Some conversations have been lively, and we’ve learned some amazing insights, and laughed at jokes. Remember that this is a safe place to practice. This is about practice and learning, it is not about getting it perfect. The animals have much to teach us, to share with us and we with them.

      Hello Barb,

I was intending to try to connect with a cat because I live with six of them, but Luchien’s poise arrested me. He stood up to greet me when he became aware of my presence and sniffed me (or the non-physical equivalents). I suggested he sit comfortably again (as in the photo), which he did. Below are further impressions or imaginations at around 9:45 CST in Texas:

–He is a noble being and loyal to you. Skeptical about me or my ability to converse with him.

–From the photo, I couldn’t tell whether he was a puppy or older. Older, about 5 or 6 years.

–Likes most: daily walks. He was resting up from his morning walk with you.

–The leaves are falling; it’s chilly but sunny; in the country not city.

–He can walk and run off-leash because you trust him to run back when you call, but he doesn’t run far anyway because he’s your protector. Sometimes he just has to go faster than you can walk or run.

Thank you and Luchien for participating. ~Carol

      Hi Carol,
Luchien is my daughters dog but I care for him 3 days a week so we know each other very well.
YES! He can run/walk much faster than I! He LOVES his walks at a large country park near my home. (I live in a small city)He won’t go far when he is off leash because he does take on protector role. He looks back to make sure I’m coming! The picture taken was when he was younger. He will be two in December!

That sounds about right about his belief that you might not be able to hear him because I’m the only one in the family that acknowledges him. I think my daughter and her husband enjoy him and love him as “just” a dog.

      Thank You!
      He is pretty wonderful!

      Hi Barb,

Thank you for the feedback. I’m trying again because it seemed that since Luchien and I first talked on Sunday, he connects to ask if I’m still “here.”

I tried to clear myself and do a meditation; even while doing that, Luchien seemed to be waiting for me to finish. He observed that I yawn a lot and, yes, I do that when meditating, connecting, writing this post (don’t know why).

During this ten-minute visit, I saw a image of a red ball. Just reporting that although it seems red balls are frequently mentioned in human-pet communications. Maybe I haven’t succeeded in clearing that cliche from my brain.

Got that Luchien’s human male parent walked with him this morning and that Luchien had fun running through leaves. I said I hoped he didn’t encounter any stinging insects hidden in them. When he said no, I said he must live where it’s cooler because they’d still be active in parts of the South where I live/have lived.

We sat and breathed together for a while. Then I asked him what he was going to do today. Luchien: Wander through the house looking out each window to see if things were okay. Have his main meal in late afternoon-early evening when both his humans would be home.

We agreed to talk again soon though sometimes the connect would be less than a minute. ~Carol

      Hi Carol,
Thanks for connecting again with Luchien.
He plays with yellow tennis balls but he has a red Kong that you can fill with food items that might have looked like a ball.
He does wait for humans. They keep the shades drawn but maybe he can push up on them and look out. I can see him doing that. He definitely watches the house for them.
He may have gone on a walk with male Human this morning and it is cool here in Colorado now so no stinging bugs around.
He eats two times per day so evening time is one of them.

Hi Barbara! I just connected with your handsome Luchien. Here’s what transpired: He said, “Hello. I am the Master.” I got that Luchien is very dignified. He said he likes to run and is protective, but also a big love. I felt like he was trying to send me the scent of his favorite food, but I wasn’t getting it. I got though that he likes cheese and chili cheese, but that Barbara doesn’t give him much human food. Also, something sweet was coming to me. It seemed like it was something with a red fruity jam or jam-like filling. Luchien said he doesn’t like to have his nails trimmed but doesn’t put up a huge fuss about it. He adores walks, particularly those in the earlier morning hours on cooler days or days when it’s crisp outside. He likes summer mornings, too, when the sun isn’t hot and it’s dewy outside. He also said there’s a particular chair he likes. He likes how it makes him feel. I told him it was a pleasure talking with him and that he can talk to me anytime and if I’m aware of it and able to, I’ll talk with him. I said bye and he was very laid back and said, “Bye, See ya.”

      Hi Martha,
Yes Luchien is all that: dignified, a big loving heart, LOVES to run and is protective. You are correct. He really enjoys walks especially in nature when it is cool but the heat slows him down quite a bit. His mom, my daughter doesn’t feed him human food. He has a very sensitive digestive system but when he is at my home (3 days a week) he will enjoy occasionally some sweet potatoe and LOVES toast with butter. He begs for it….but no cheese or jam…although he has been known to find old icky pieces of pizza hidden in bushes kids have thrown away in a park near our home. Maybe there was also something with jam. He is very fast when finding the ickiest old food as his sense of smell is finely tuned.
He does have favorite places to sleep. In my house it’s my couch but my daughter may have a chair he likes. She takes him to PetSmart to get his toenails clipped which he puts up with. He will also chew on his own toenails.
You got his essence! Yay! Thanks for connecting with him.
If you connect again, please ask him why he lunges after poor little puppies. It happened at a PetSmart and at the Dog Park. He also growls at other Dobermans and would start a fight if I let him😥

Hi Barb, I was trying to communicate with Luchien, this is what I received. He is a two year old male that is very powerful but gentle with you and others. He says he likes to run because he is fast and makes him feel good. He says he is outside mostly during the day and inside at night. I think he said his favorite food is fish. He says he is healthy and has no pain in his body. He says he lives with two cats and no dogs. He suggests that I listen with my heart and to get out of my head. Thank you Barb and Luchien.

      Hi Rusty!
      Thanks for connecting with Luchien.
He is two years old and loves to run! He is very healthy! You really got his essence!

I have never seen him eat fish…maybe he wishes he could.

He lives with Duke, a Belgian Malinois which is similar to a German Shepherd. He does go out mostly in the day and sleeps a lot at night! Good advice we all need to hear from Luchien! Thank You!

Hello Barb. Thank you for sharing Luchien as one of our animal teachers. My general impression is that he may be an old soul. He loves to prance around on those long legs, is a very happy, playful dog, enjoys toys, is well behaved, likes attention, and loves being outside.
I introduced myself and ask if we could talk. He said: Why, of course! Me: How are you? L: I’m great. I like when people choose me to talk with. Me: I’m glad about that. I appreciate that you want to talk with me. So, what would you like to share with me? L: Well, obviously, I’m a dog (LOL), and I am very content and happy. I am well cared for and all my needs are met. I enjoy helping Barb with her AC work. Me: That’s great. How do you help her? L: I allow my presence and energy to be available for her. We have a strong bond, and it’s comforting for her to have me there with her. It’s part of my purpose here. Me: Wow, that’s wonderful. I’m sure she appreciates that. What else do you like to do? L: I enjoy toys, and playing, and massages. Me: That sounds neat. Is there anything else you want to share with me? (At this point, it was like he got distracted for a bit, then answered me.) L: Just for you to continue along this AC path. We animals need all of you who are in this work. Me: Thank you so much, and thank you for talking with me.

Thanks Sharon for connecting with Luchien. You really got his essence!

He loves toys and being outside, likes attention enjoys massages. When he feels well, he prances around. He enjoys playing! He is lively but not always well behaved. He has a naughty side to him. He will take a shoe and move it to another part of the house or run off with his leash.

We do have a strong bond. He nudges me when I’m trying to write up a reading ie “that’s enough attention given to others…” pat me….
I do relax and find his presence comforting though.

He is happiest when out in nature on hikes. Otherwise he is pretty serious as he is a guarding maniac and has to watch out for intruders. He also distracts easily.

      Hi Barb,

I am new to the forum and am practicing connecting and talking with different animals. I had the pleasure of reaching out and connecting with Luchien. The first time I reached out he said he was resting and was too tired to talk! But I could connect again another time. So I did a day later. He is wonderful and so sweet. I introduced myself and he was very formal with “pleased to meet you”. I asked him what he likes best about his home. The response was “I like that I can do anything I want”. I laughed at that, and then he said he also has a job and is a responsible dog. His job is to always check on everyone and make sure that all is good. He told me he likes car rides, especially if it involves a playdate with another dog friend. He said he would be happy to talk again sometimes. Thank you so much for sharing Luchien with the group, it was great getting to know him!

Thank You for connecting with Luchien. Yes! He is quite formal and polite and very sweet. I am so happy to hear that he likes car rides now and they are enjoyable. I have worked deeply with him on this, even asking Val for assistance.
His dog friends are the next door neighbors so they don’t drive for play dates unless he is coming to my house then he may be happy as well. (I take care of him a lot but he is my daughter’s dog).
I’m glad he shared with you.
      Love, Barb

Thank you Barb for allowing me to talk to Luchien. I introduced myself and asked for his help, as I have very little practice in communication and really want to improve. In fact, I connected with him on two separate occasions, as I wanted a longer conversation than what I normally get.

What was surprising was that I got Luchien in two very different moods on the two days, so I’m not sure which one is more on the mark. Also since I don’t know your time zone (in relation to our time zone in India) I may have approached him at very different times, though he was willing to talk both times.

A week ago I found him full of energy, playful, rolling on the grass, an attitude of go with the flow. Then I saw him sitting on a rug, head on his paw, a patient, gentle boy. There seemed to be a small child he is/was fond of. There was a white bowl with milk near him.

Yesterday he seemed more thoughtful, a bit tired, a hint of pain in one of the back legs, but also an image of chasing cats and mice! As well as playing with a yellow ball. When I asked about his favorite treat, I got the picture of a big bone.

He wants you to know that he loves you very much and wants to protect you from negative energies.

Thanks again to you and Luchien, blessings!

Thank you Nita for connecting with Luchien.

His favorite activity is rolling in the grass! And yes he can be a very patient and gentle boy.
He has never had any small children in this life and doesn’t drink milk in white bowls, so don’t know why those images are appearing. It could be he has an imaginary kitty friend.
He would love to chase cats and mice (he is not allowed to. When he dreams you can see his legs moving so that may be what you are picking up on. He develops weird problems so it’s totally possible one of his back legs could give him issues. He really enjoys the sounds balls make in his mouth so again congratulations for picking up on his enjoyment of balls. He may have had a yellow one at some point. He enjoys bones as well. I think that you are very good at picking up “invisible—inside” stuff. Keep practicing and you will trust yourself more. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thank you so much Barb for the prompt feedback and encouragement….even though I didn’t get too much right! Apart from the FAT, I have communicated only with Luchien, as I was really drawn to him, such a lovely boy! Yes, I do need to practice regularly to develop some self confidence.
Thanks again for your kindness and support.
Love and blessings to you and Luchien!

        Hi Nita,
Your impressions may be totally right. Go the next step and ask why am I being shown this white bowl and the child? Val encourages us to ask more questions. In the end it is not about right or wrong because whatever you receive fits somehow. Trust those immediate impressions.

I want to thank you also for sharing Luchien’s love and his role in my life of protecting from negative energies. Val did a private session with us on that topic. He doesn’t live with me(he is my daughter’s dog)but I have spent many hours with him and helped to raise him. Yes! He is a lovely boy!

        Love,
        Barb

Thanks again Barb, and sorry for missing your post earlier. Very grateful for your suggestion…I will connect with him again after a while and ask him about what I saw. I thought maybe I was off course…very low in self confidence due to lack of practice!

Yes, Luchien seems very protective of you….I see why since you’ve helped to raise him, so obviously he’s grateful and fond of you.

My deepest gratitude for all your help, time and patience.

Love and blessings, to Luchien too!

      Hi Barb,
I connected with Luchien but after looking at the other submissions, I fear that I was way off base. But, I will report what I received anyway…. During this communication, I did catch myself falling back into my head and needed to reconnect before proceeding. Luchien is a gorgeous playful Doberman Pinscher. When I introduced myself and asked if he would speak with me he jumped up, stood tall and asked “What do you want to talk about?” Personality: mostly playful but can be stoic like a guard dog. Loves his family members but no one can compete with his love for his Mom.

I asked him what his favorite things to do was and he showed me baskets of toys and then tug toys and fetch. Games that involved his humans. I asked him if he really brings the ball back? That wasn’t the point!

I asked him if there were other animals in the home and he showed me a picture of a gray striped cat. They are good friends and sometimes cuddle with each other when others aren’t around.

I asked if he likes his food. He showed me wet conned food or a gravy topper that he has on his kibble regularly or on occasion. Whatever the duration, he likes that.

What activities do you like to do? He said he likes to go for walks. Sometimes when he is on leash and he see’s another dog, he will lunge and bark. He isn’t being aggressive, he is being a clown. He said he is having fun trying to scare them “Boo!”. He doesn’t want to fight at all and if he wasn’t held back by his leash for safety, he wouldn’t play that game. He knows his Mom gets mad but sometimes he can’t help himself, it’s just too funny”.

I told him that I saw a picture of a crate in his photo. When are you put in your crate? When his parents leave the house he goes in his crate. They don’t trust him roaming free. He is OK with it. They usually give him tasty chewing things when they leave.

It was a pleasure speaking with Luchien, however, I may have had many pieces in my own head. 🤷‍♀️

      Hi Terianne,
Thank You for practicing with Luchien and being aware of your feelings, whether you were grounded and neutral and connected heart to heart with Luchien.
You actually got ALOT right!!! Yay!
I can picture him standing up tall like a guard dog. He spends his days guarding the house. He is very stoic. As he gets older, he is less playful. There is a big basket of toys and you are right, fetch is not the point. It’s having the attention of his humans which he craves.
He does lunge on the leash and bark at other dogs and his mom (my daughter) does get annoyed with him. It is so nice to see his viewpoint!!
They do give him tasty, chewy things when they leave although he doesn’t go in a crate. They block off parts of the house and his kennel, that he can access from inside the house is like a crate, so he may feel that they don’t trust him.

The kitty may be from a past life. We can always ask MORE questions. I catch myself forgetting this important step. Val is a MASTER at getting to why the image is coming up and what it means at this point in their lives.

You brought valuable insights into Luchien today that I haven’t thought about. Trust yourself! This reading was very helpful.
