Let’s talk about Soulmates!
I haven’t shared much about this time in my life or about one of my very special soulmates before, because it’s pretty personal.
In case you didn’t know, there was a time when I hadn’t had a man in my life in over 10 years. Single, isolated, working all the time, with only girl friends (and my Mom) in my life.
Then one year, something shifted for me. I felt guided that it was time for me to be more social, to enjoy more out of life rather than simply working all the time, and maybe to find a nice man to enjoy spending time with.
So I embarked on a whirlwind of dating and met many wonderful men. Eventually, I settled on a man that made me feel loved and happy. His name was Dan. He was my neighbor’s brother and worked as a handyman.
Dan started courting me the old fashioned way in April. We began dating seriously in June, and decided he should move in with me the end of October.
On Christmas Eve, we were preparing for our first Christmas together. He was still moving in so my home was a bit disorganized and cluttered as we combined our lives, and many years of collected ‘stuff’, habits and lifestyles. We were running errands, cooking, and deciding what to do about family matters (his and mine), etc.
For many of you, that may not seem so special. I assure you that for me? It was HUGE.
What’s so very cool is that for the first time in a very very long time, I now felt like I had a partner. I wasn’t all alone anymore.
He was there for me and delighted in giving me whatever I wanted, needed or asked for. He had a bigger family than I did, and they welcomed me with open arms.
We felt that we were Soulmates.
One definition of a Soulmate is someone who is Divinely gifted to us so that we can heal, grow and evolve. They can be any species, human or animal. They may be here for a short time, a season, or a lifetime.
Dan helped heal my heart. I’d been so wounded in so many of my past relationships, it was truly an act of faith and courage to share myself with him (if you read my story in the Spirited Woman’s Magazine, you’ll get a glimpse into that challenging part of my life’s journey).
With Dan, I chose to be courageous, to speak up and express myself, no more hiding…. to let him see into my heart… to see my tears, my pain, my fears… and also share in my joy, my happiness and love too.
Each time we expressed our Truth and revealed ourselves to each other, we created a new level of intimacy (“into me see”), and our relationship went deeper. And we both become better people for it.
So today, I’m most grateful for Soulmates.
YOU are also my Soulmate because YOU also help me heal, grow and evolve.
Einstein my Miniature Schnauzer loved spending time with Dan too. They were very good for each other. Dan delighted in showing Einstein off to friends, and learned how to train him and teach him tricks too. And Einstein loved going on adventures with him.
My life expanded. I came out of my shell and began healing from an abusive marriage. I found myself again.
Years went by, and Dan and I broke up when it was time to go on our separate ways. We’d taught each other everything we could and it was time to move on.
But I’ve never forgotten the gifts and treasures, life lessons, and joy of having him in my life and what changed because of it.
I went on to find another even better partner and Soulmate… this time I was ready for more and I married him!

Whatever their lessons and gifts to you, whether they are still in your life now or not, take time this to feel appreciation and gratitude for them being in your life.
