Are you – and your pets – stressed?
Easing stress in times of trouble is one of the most important skills you can have. Being able to do that though? Easier said than done.
More bad news is that you transmit to your pet what you’re feeling. When they’re paying attention they always know what you’re thinking, how you’re feeling, and they know when you’re stressed.
But it’s so confusing to them because it makes no sense from their viewpoint. Where’s the bear? Is the tiger hiding in the tree? What are we in danger from again? Explain it to me so I can help!
Bottom line is: When you’re stressed? They are too.
Stress used unwisely and without purpose in a true fight flight survival situation becomes a degenerative energy that takes its toll on us in more ways than one. Our immune systems can’t function properly which makes us more vulnerable to illness. Our blood pressure goes up and our body’s maintenance systems go offline during the perceived “emergency” that never ends…
And when you factor in the Human Animal BodyMind Connection where they act out and reflect or mirror our stress for us? Or carry our illnesses for us? Ouch.
Seriously. Not good.
Did you know?
One way to help yourself (and your animals) right NOW during the Coronavirus scare, ease the stress you’re feeling and other challenging times in our lives is to simply limit and reduce your stress.
How?
It’s easy: Try deep breathing.
When done right, deep breathing can help lower blood pressure and provide an almost immediate sense of calm, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Which can ease stress and help protect your immune system.
And broadcasts to everyone around you including your animals that you’re okay.
When they get the message? They can relax too.
And it only takes a minute to do.
Breathing deeply and slowly sends a message to your body (AND your animals) that “all is well,” even when the world outside is frantic…
This is my favorite easing stress technique!
A simple, effective form of deep breathing is “box breathing,” with 4 parts of equal length, like a box.
Try it now.
Watch this and follow along.
Breathe in for 4 seconds.
Hold your breath for 4 seconds.
Breathe out for 4 seconds.
Hold again for 4 seconds.
Repeat up to 4 times total.
That’s it.
Please give it a try right now. Just do it.
…
I’m waiting… and breathing with you…
…
Did you do it???
How do you feel now?
Better? A bit more peaceful? More present? A little clearer??
You’re welcome!

Another fantastic way to ease stress with animals is learn how to TALK to them about what’s going on. You know things they don’t know, and they knows things you don’t know. Open the lines of communication heart to heart, mind to mind, so you can partner up together.
