We are glad you are interested in practicing talking together with an animal!
To get started, greet the animal and ask if they have time to talk with you. Remember that animals also lead busy lives even though we may not see all that they do. If they aren’t available, check back later.
Introduce yourself and explain why you are reaching out to them: that you are a member of the Animal Talk Coaching Club and learning to better communicate with animals and would appreciate their help. You can ask them any questions you want. Typically they do provide a response. Please share your impressions of their personality, energy, how they feel and any insights they may share with you. By sharing what you get, the animal’s person can provide you with feedback and others can jump in too.
Use the Forum SEARCH field (located at the top of the right column above the picture of the Featured Animal Teacher) to find more discussions involving this animal (or other animals with the same name).
Some conversations have been lively, and we’ve learned some amazing insights, and laughed at jokes. Remember that this is a safe place to practice. This is about practice and learning, it is not about getting it perfect. The animals have much to teach us, to share with us and we with them.

Sure!
If you feel inclined, could you ask him why as of late he’s been fussing to go outside multiple times at night?

Well, not sure …
… but there could be some nocturnal animal activity around the house and Ranger is quite aware of that. I get the impression that he does not necessarily bark when he is out there but that he sniffs around and tries to follow their traces. Ranger is generally very alert and curious (and has excellent hearing as you know). There are different animals, not bigger than a badger or a racoon, more likely hedgehog size or some rodents with (bushy) tails (like squirrels or mice). He does not like it when they walk over or scratch on some wooden planks that are connected to the house because that sound really gets him going, then he really wants to go out to see what is going on.So rather nothing dangerous going on outside nor does he have any medical issue, in my opinion.
Could it be that you live in an area where wildlife could be rather close or where having wildlife visit at night is nothing unusual. You might also have like a wooden veranda or porch. Maybe sometimes after a rainy night you might find a muddy print of a paw there.
Keep in mind, I’m only practising and not sure yet when I am « in the zone ». So if anyone should read this, please also try to give Amy an answer to her question.
Kind regards,
Gabriela -

You are spot on, Gabriela. Lots of squirrel, rabbit, opossum activity in our neighborhood. We have a wooden fence so that totally makes sense. Also you are absolutely accurate about what he does outside. He runs around like a maniac tracking with his nose on the ground. Not a huge barker outside. Thank you for checking about any medical issues. He’s just young and full of vigor I guess. Wish we could get him to sleep overnight though. It’s taking a toll on us. 🙂
