We are glad you are interested in practicing talking together with an animal!
To get started, greet the animal and ask if they have time to talk with you. Remember that animals also lead busy lives even though we may not see all that they do. If they arenβt available, check back later.
Introduce yourself and explain why you are reaching out to them: that you are a member of the Animal Talk Coaching Club and learning to better communicate with animals and would appreciate their help. You can ask them any questions you want. Typically they do provide a response. Please share your impressions of their personality, energy, how they feel and any insights they may share with you. By sharing what you get, the animalβs person can provide you with feedback and others can jump in too.
Use the Forum SEARCH field (located at the top of the right column above the picture of the Featured Animal Teacher) to find more discussions involving this animal (or other animals with the same name).
Some conversations have been lively, and weβve learned some amazing insights, and laughed at jokes. Remember that this is a safe place to practice. This is about practice and learning, it is not about getting it perfect. The animals have much to teach us, to share with us and we with them.

Hi Patty,
Thank you for offering Shadow as an animal teacher. Right away he said, “I see you.” I get the sense, too, that Shadow is very much like a mini black panther. He is a guardian and protector. He says he brings good luck, too.He said he likes to patrol the house and loves the sun-sitting in the sun at the door and lying in it.
He showed me carpeting and also a tile floor.
He likes the flowers and the tree. He enjoys watching the birds and does the teeth chattering thing sometimes he says.
I asked him what his favorite thing to do is and he said to hunt mice in his head and to get and give love and attention.
I asked him about his favorite thing to eat. He says he eats wet and dry food. He showed me an image of a big, raw steak. He’d like to eat that! I think maybe he’d like raw cat food made specifically for cats. I asked him if he would and he said he’d try it, if he were to be offered it. I told him that I didn’t know if he’d be offered that or not.
I asked him if he gets up high like he is in the picture a lot. He said, “Yes! It’s a great way to observe!” He said he loves to observe because he learns so much that way.
I asked him about other things he likes to do. He said he likes to lie on the bed and on clothes. He said you find a lot of his fur on them and constantly comment on it out of love.
“Fire place” also came to mind. I asked if he has a fire place. He said he does or did.
He said he has lots of toys-a string, balls, and a toy with balls on it (along the lines of felt hats that have the pieces on it) but his toy has balls connected to the pieces.
I told him I’m going to go now because I have a kitty who wants to eat. He said, “Okay, come back soon.” I told him he can come to me anytime and if it works we can talk. He said that sounds good. I then petted him and he jumped up into my arms for a couple of seconds and then got down. He’s extraordinary and so majestic! I love him!

Hi Martha, Shadow is quite the goofball. He likes to think he’s in charge of the house and the other kitties. I have to separate him and Boo kitty sometimes because she thinks he’s going to attack her. I’m never sure if he actually is or if he’s just trying to get close to her and she doesn’t want it. She gets very loud when that happens. He is a guardian for sure, not so sure about the protector. If something happens that he’s not sure of, he hides until the coast is clear.
He loves the sun – in limited doses until he gets too warm. We do have carpeting and parquet flooring, which could look like tile. We also have a wood stove which is getting quite a workout these days. He likes sitting in the windows, watching the birds and other critters.
We have an abundance of mice that have been living in one of my couches for who knows how long, and I’m helping them to go outside a few at a time via a humane trap. He loves to sit right by the trap, as if they would come out while he’s sitting right there! That’s the first place he wants to go in the mornings, so I guess he’s hunting them in his head. Dreaming of snagging one.
He is quite the loving kitty, the only one that sleeps on my bed. I think he told the other two that the bed is “his”, because it’s been a very long time since either one of them have even tried to get on the bed. He does leave his fur on everything, and I talk to him about it, but as the saying goes, “no outfit (or bedspread) is complete without kitty/dog hair on it”.
I don’t think I’ll be offering him a steak, as I’m vegan, and it would be really hard for me to feed them a raw diet unless I can find one already prepared that is not a ridiculous price.
I bought them all a cat tree last year, and I see him up in it from time to time. He’s quite a large kitty, and I think the little beds are hard for him to fit himself in. He likes to stretch out. He doesn’t play with a lot of toys. I have one hanging up in the loft for them to bat around anytime they feel like it, but they pretty much ignore it. They have some balls laying around that they kick around when they feel like playing. I also have some hanging on doorknobs that they pretty much ignore too.
I hope he didn’t knock you off balance when he jumped into your arms, as he’s quite large, and doesn’t stay long when I pick him up. I guess he never really has gotten used to being held that way.
Thank you for talking to Shadow. Let me know if you two hook up again. π

Hi Patty. Thanks for the feedback. No, he didn’t knock me off balance π As for feeding him raw food, you can check out the brand named Primal. Give Shadow a pat for me π

Hi, Patty! Oh, my goodness, Shadow’s eyes so ALLURING. Every time I look at him, he’s inviting me in! I feel so drawn to him, likely because he reminds me of my passed girl, October.
This exercise will complete Class 2 in the Beginner’s course. My first impressions of Shadow is that he’s magical and he can see spirits. He may get sketchy with the ‘encounters’, as he can see through the veil easier. He’s super aware, has a powerful, wise soul. Sometimes he’s so tuned it that it looks crazy to another observer.
Physically, he feels between 2-4 years? Certainly on the younger spectrum. He feels firm, strong and agile. Very fit. Is his fur under his neck softer? Loves to hunt and explore outdoors. Loves to play, which crosses over with his stalking instincts. Even though he’s part of your animal consciousness collection, and they all accept him as part of the family, does he have an independent side? They understand his youth when he attempts getting attention out of natural compulsion rather than anything personal. His pestering can be a little aggressive in play, but he can’t help it. I see him chilling in the sun, observing from a high location (tree cat?), but also ducking into a safe cave situation. I asked him why he hides when he feels so connected at home. I’ve had kitties hide because they’ve witnessed their siblings get taken away. I told him no one was going to take him away. When I leaned in, I saw some nervousness going to the vet, possibly to get neutered? I then asked him if he felt any pain. I received front right paw? But not a big worrying bother. I find that animals don’t get weighed down with pain like some humans do.
I asked him what he likes to eat, and I tasted & felt tuna. Does he likes different water sources?
I then asked if I could become him, and I felt my hearing, seeing and feeling senses super heightened. I could feel his urge to hunt, play, chase, destroy. I wrote down “mischievous”. What a powerful body. That’s when I focused on his right front paw again. Again, nothing he’s worried about. Then I got a future warning about his urinary tract, which relates to his different water sources. Does he have a water fountain? He might like that.
I asked him if there was anything he’d like to share with you. I felt love, devotion, gratitude. Event hough he has an independent streak, he has a possessive side, too, lol.
I asked if I could hear his meow, and I felt a scratchy tone in my throat.
Thank you for sharing Shadow! -

Hi Judy,
Sorry to be behind in getting to this, I’m a couple days behind on my e-mails. Thank you for choosing to talk with Shadow.
He’s an indoor kitty, about 9 yrs old now, I believe. He is overweight, always has been, and with 2 other kitties it’s nearly impossible to limit his food intake. He eats what the others don’t. He’s like a bottomless pit. He is allergic to a lot of things, wheat gluten being the primary thing, so nobody gets food with that in it. If he does get ahold of something he shouldn’t, he breaks out and gets all itchy, and it does affect his right front foot. When that happens, we go for the Collodial Silver, which he really likes. He will get up on the bathroom sink and drink it from the eye dropper. He’s been doing that the past couple of days, so if he’s telling you his foot is bothering him (there’s no outward indication right now – usually he limps and holds it up), maybe I better give him some.
He does play with toys occasionally, but not as much as I would like him to. He is very independent, bordering on being the bully of the house. He’s a large kitty, and likes to intimidate the others, whether he’s being aggressive or not it’s hard to tell sometimes, but the smallest of the three gets very upset at times when he gets in her face. He does like to find sunny spots, and I got them a cat tree a couple years ago that he likes to sleep in. He was neutered as a kitten at about 6 months and hasn’t been to the vet except for a couple times for his allergies before I found Collodial Silver, so maybe he still has memories of that?
He has several places around the house where he gets water, but it’s all the same water from my filtered, structured water that we all drink. I have a water fountain, but quit using it because none of them really used it that much and it got to be just one more thing that I had to clean all the time. He does like tuna.
Of all my kitties, he has become the most loving and affectionate, and within the past year or so, has become quite vocal, talking to me all the time. He is pretty magical!
Congratulations on completing Class 2, and thanks again for choosing my boy. I hope I answered all your questions. Let me know if I didn’t. π

Hi Patty,
Shadow is gorgeous! When I told him he reminded me of a panther, he licked his paw and seemed pleased with himself. πI am still very new, so I was able to get a little bit, but not as much as I would like. He likes to climb on things and jump up to look out the window. He doesn’t seem to like to play with many toys, and he sleeps on a human bed. I also got the impression that he likes to “hide” in enclosed spaces (like under a blanket or a cave-like area).
My dogs started barking and I lost my connection, but will try again with Shadow at a later time. Thank you (and him) for the opportunity.
